CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Madison Conklin, Grace Hulslander, and Keeley MacAfee each scored four goals and sophomore goalie Grace Rotondo made a career high 15 saves to help Harvard women's lacrosse (2-1) earn an 18-12 win over UMass (1-2) in the home opener for the Crimson at Jordan Field. Caroline Garrity and Katie Muldoon each added a pair of goals, as Harvard rallied from a three-goal deficit in the first half, scoring four goals at the end of the first half to take a 10-9 lead. The Crimson outscored UMass 8-3 in the second half to pull away for the win. Shots were even at 38-38 for the game, with Harvard owning a 29-19 advantage on ground balls. The four-goal run at the end of the first half was keyed by three scores in a span of 1:25 seconds late in the frame. Muldoon scored on a free position shot at 3:48, then MacAfee added her first goal of the game just over 30 seconds later, making a great move into the left side of the circle and beating UMass goalie Gina Carroll (seven saves) with a high shot at 3:16. Hulslander's third goal of the first half at 2:11 helped the Crimson retake the lead at 10-9 heading into the break. A three-goal run early in the second half, capped off by Hulslander's final goal of the game at 18:16 put the Crimson in front 13-10. Then another three-goal run, sparked by senior captain Marley Jenkins' first goal of the season at 12:28, pushed the lead to 16-11, all but sealing the win for the Crimson.
