Junior Eric Zimm and sophomore Keaton McCann led a balanced attack with four points each as the Union College men's lacrosse team remained unbeaten in Liberty League play with a 14-6 victory over Clarkson University on Saturday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium. McCann and Zimm both recorded two goals and two assists for Union (7-1, 2-0 Liberty League), which has won seven of its first eight games for the first time since 2014. Senior John Edmonds and juniors Kerry Lyne and Jack Kaufman added two goals apiece for the Dutchmen in the win. Clarkson scored the first goal of the game but the remainder of the opening half was all Union, as the Dutchmen scored seven straight to take a 7-1 lead into the break. After that first goal, the Dutchmen outshot the Golden Knights 29-12 and also won 8-of-9 faceoffs to control play. The home team held a 2-1 lead after a low-scoring first quarter, as McCann answered the Clarkson tally and then assisted on classmate Hayden Frey's goal to give the Dutchmen a lead after 15 minutes. The second quarter was all Union, which outshot Clarkson 18-4 and scored five unanswered tallies. Five different players scored for the Dutchmen in the quarter, with Zimm and Edmonds leading the way with a goal and an assist each. Union extended its run to 11 straight goals with the first four tallies of the third quarter, capped by a man-down goal from junior Jimmy Connelly that put the home team up by double digits midway through the frame. The Dutchmen let up slightly in the final stanza, as the Golden Knights scored three times to Union's two tallies. Senior Jack Santilli had another excellent effort in goal for Union, conceding one goal and making eight saves in 37:41 of action. Junior Graham Goldheim made five saves and freshman Reed Karaska turned aside one shot as well the rest of the way. Union finished with a 46-30 advantage in shots, while also winning 16-of-24 draws. Junior Patrick Regan was a perfect 7-for-7 at the X and senior Alex Newhouse was 6-of-9 as well to pace the Dutchmen. Union will continue its homestand on Wednesday, when the Dutchmen host Montclair State University beginning at 4 p.m.
