In their first game of the 2019 season, Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Lacrosse survived Adams State University and a blizzard to earn a 12-11 victory Saturday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium. The Pack started the season 1-0 and earned their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory. Adams State dropped to 1-1 (0-1 RMAC). Colton Rasmussen (So., Great Falls, Mont.) made 13 saves on 24 shots for a 54.2 save percentage. Rasmussen is now 4-1 in his career. Senior attackmen Taylor Davis and Anthony Ferrie (Littleton, Colo.) each scored four goals. Davis netted his four goals on five shots. Ferrie snagged four ground balls. Caleb Cole (Fr., Houston, Texas) fired in a hat trick in his Pack debut. Cole had three ground balls. He scored a goal with 1:45 left in the fourth that would be the difference in the game. Jacob Muir (Fr., Ogden, Utah) won 10 of the 15 faceoffs he took. Muir collected six ground balls in his Pack debut. Tommy Vassallo (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.) totaled two assists. Isaiah Parker (Fr., Windsor, Colo.) scored his first goal in a Pack uniform. Parker Evans (So., Bentonville, Ark.) and Tavian Watson (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) each collected five ground balls. Evans and Watson each caused two turnovers. Skylar Weathers (Fr., Ogden, Utah) also forced two turnovers. Parker got the Pack on the board 10 minutes into the game on a man-up opportunity. Ferrie followed up with a goal that the Pack up 2-0. They led 2-1 after one. The Grizzlies got the first two goals of the second to take their first and only lead of the game. Goals from Cole and Davis put the Pack back in front 4-3. With 5:33 left in the second, Ferrie scored to put the Pack up 5-4 heading into the half. In the second half, Ferrie started the scoring to complete his hat trick. After an Adams State goal, the Pack went on a 4-0 run that gave them a 10-5 lead after three. Adams State scored the first four goals of the fourth to tie the game at 10 with 6:03 left. Davis put the Pack back in front, scoring with 3:46 to go. Cole completed the hat trick with 1:45 left in regulation to put the Pack up 12-10. The Grizzlies would not quit. They scored with 56 seconds remaining they cut it to one. Adams State had one more chance to tie it, but the Pack forced a turnover to preserve the 12-11 victory. The Pack will now travel to California for two games. They will play Felician University Saturday March 9 at 1 p.m. The ThunderWolves will also clash with Notre Dame de Namur Sunday at 1 p.m. – 30 – As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
