The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team was tripped up by visiting Tusculum on Sunday, falling 13-5 in a game played at Bob Jones High School due to the recent heavy rain in the Tennessee Valley. The Chargers slip to 0-3, while TU improves to 2-1.
Turning Point
-After the Chargers had pulled within three at 6-3 early in the third quarter, the guests rattled off the next five goals to take an insurmountable 11-3 lead just over four minutes into the fourth.
Inside the Box Score
-Five different Chargers scored in the game with each of Josh Campbell, Adam Zois, Brody Phillips, Nicholas Ranta, and Joseph Stuber tallying goals.
-Jake Fowler – who won 16 of 21 faceoffs – also picked up a point in the contest as he assisted on the goal by Phillips.
-UAH outshot the Pioneers by a 42-36 margin, though Tusculum held a slim 23-22 edge in attempts that were on goal.
-The Chargers established a 29-20 edge in ground balls, and Fowler led the Chargers with nine while Colton Nall added four.
-UAH was 14-for-15 in clear attempts, while Tusculum was 24-for-29.
Inside the Flow
-Tusculum scored the first four goals of the game, owning a 3-0 advantage after the first quarter and scoring the first goal of the second before Campbell struck with 3:56 left in the stanza to make it a 4-1 game.
-The Pioneers answered at the 2:59 mark, but Adam Zois would make it a 5-2 game at the break as he scored with just 42 seconds left before the half.
-After Tusculum went ahead 6-2 two and a half minutes into the third quarter, Phillips would score for the Chargers just six seconds later to cut the deficit in half at 6-3.
-The guests then scored the five straight goals to go up 11-3 with 10:52 remaining in the contest before Ranta and Stuber scored around a pair of TU goals to create the 13-5 final.
Noteworthy
-Both Campbell and Stuber log their first collegiate goals.
-Nine different Chargers now have goals on the season.
-Ranta's score is his fifth of the season which ranks him second on the team.
-Fowler has won 16 faceoffs in consecutive games, and he is now winning them at a 53.2 percent clip on the season.
Next Time Out
-The Chargers are slated to return to action on Friday against Florida Southern. That contest is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at Charger Park.
