A nine-goal performance from junior attack Scott Wilden (Wexford, Pa.) - four of which came on the man-up - paced Chestnut Hill College to a 17-9 win against Wheeling Jesuit University in today's home opener at Victory Field #1. The Griffins took a back seat to the Cardinals in the first period, 5-3, but outscored Seton Hill University 5-0 in the second period, 8-5, to reverse fortunes. Wilden's nine goals set the program's all-time mark for goals in a single game, which was previously held by recent graduate Dylan Klusaritz '18 (8, @ Georgian Court University, 4/11/17). Chestnut Hill College (2-0) got off to a slow start in the opening period, trailing Wheeling Jesuit University (0-4) by a 5-3 spread. Fortunately, an unassisted goal from Wilden at 10:31 (5-4) of the second quarter ignited a run that left the Griffins up 8-5 heading to intermission; sophomore midfielder Ben Revak (Aston, Pa.) (5-5, 8:34), sophomore midfielder Mickey Holland (Brick, N.J.) (6-5, 4:09), a second goal by Wilden (7-5, 4:07), and another tally from senior defenseman Matthew Anderson (Yardley, Pa.) (8-5, 3:49) provided the goals that set the tone for the rest of the match. With confidence, Chestnut Hill College added four more goals by the end of the third quarter, 12-6, and cemented the victory with a 5-3 fourth-quarter edge. Senior midfielder Phillip Burns (Springboro, Ohio) led Wheeling Jesuit University with three goals. Meanwhile, freshman attack Connor O'Brien (New Albany, Ohio) offered two goals and a ground ball. Five other Cardinals chipped in at least a point apiece Sophomore goalkeeper P.J. Campion (McLean, Va.) made 17 saves and recovered six ground balls. Wilden added an assist and four ground balls to his historic scoring performance. Sophomore attack J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) finished with three goals, one assist, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers, while Revak logged two goals, one assist, and two ground balls. Senior midfielder John Bennett (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), Holland, and Anderson also recorded a goal apiece. Freshman goalkeeper Austin Jones (Courtice, Ontario, Canada) (2-0) played majority of the game (55:57) and finished the affair with a dozen (12) saves and ground balls. Chestnut Hill College returns to Victory Field #1 on Tuesday, February 26, to host Seton Hill University in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
