WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team won their third consecutive contest on March 23, defeating Carroll University by a final score of 28-3. This was the first ever meeting between the two sides. With a win the Titans improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while Carroll falls to 3-7 and 0-1 in the CCIW. IWU held a commanding 14-2 lead at halftime and scored the first 14 goals of the game. The Titan defense held the Pioneers to just one goal in the second half. 14 different Titans scored on Saturday, led by freshman Alex Doorenbos, who scored seven goals alongside two assists. Closely behind Doorenbos was freshman Rowan Hanold who scored the first five goals of his career while adding one assist on the afternoon. Freshman Will Laidlaw scored three goals to continue the trend of high scoring freshman. Senior Jacob Perry and sophomore Bailey Marth each scored two goals. Nine different Titans scored one goal, which includes freshman Pete Picciolo, Danny Lowe, Evan Anderson and Erick Johnston. Sophomore Jack Quinn, Tom Lyons and Connor May, junior Nick Winter, and senior Michael Julius also scored once. Julius led the team with four assists, followed by Picciolo with three. Sophomore J.C. Grabarek led the team with 13 ground balls and won 16-of-16 face-offs. The Titans lost just two face-offs all day going 32-of-34. In goal, freshman Benigno Houser got the win as he recorded seven saves in all 60 minutes of work. For the Pioneers, Jeffery Schultz led the team with two goals and Edward Weizenicker led the team with six ground balls.
