women's lacrosse team put a bow on their 2021 regular season with a 21-5 win over Detroit Mercy Thursday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium to extend their win streak to nine games. The victory also extended the Colonials' home win streak to 17 games as RMU ends the 2021 campaign a perfect 10-0 in MAC play following their first ever MAC conference title last week. Emilie Kim led RMU in scoring with three goals and four points, while Julia Koterwas and Clio Kerr also recorded hat tricks ahead of their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance next week. "We did a great job of managing everything today," head coach Katrina Silva said. "It's a lot of emotions to deal with coming out to your last ever home game, and we had 14 kids out there that all had that emotion. As the game went on we started to iron ourselves out and really started to take control." The Colonials took advantage of a dominant 13-0 run to start Thursday's action as eight goal scorers combined to give RMU a stranglehold after the first 30 minutes. Julia Koterwas completed the first half hat trick to punctuate what was a clinical effort from RMU. The twin duo of Melanie Gandy and Mackenzie Gandy figured in on RMU's first four goals to jump start things early as Mackenzie opened the scoring on a free-position attempt 1:18 into the game. She would add another goal as well as an assist on Hannah Miller's tally to make it a three point day for the graduate less than five minutes in. Melanie would add a goal of her own to make it 4-0 before RMU's depth began to tilt the field in RMU's favor. Freshman Gianna Anthony buried another FPS to make it a five-goal lead for RMU before two from Koterwas and Bailey Christianson's third of the season broke the game open for the Colonials in the first. They would push it to 13-0 before the Titans got a couple back at the tail end of the first for a 13-2 RMU lead after thirty. RMU continued to roll deep into their lineup in the second, keeping the clock running with some efficient movement through the midfield as the Colonials kept building their lead. Jordan Anderson's prowess on the draw unit was once again an integral part of keeping the RMU attack sharp as the sophomore scooped seven draws to become just the second player in program history to record 100 draws in a season. Julia Davies got in on the scoring in the second, picking up her second of the year, one of four goals from the Colonials' freshman class on the afternoon. They would end the game on a 6-1 run as Tifft completed the hat trick and RMU secured a perfect 10-0 record in their inaugural season as members of the MAC. "We talked a lot in the locker room prior to the game that, as you get older, there's only a few games that will really stick out in your memory, and your last home game is definitely one of those games. You want that replay in your head to be of happy memories of the game, so I'm really happy with the way we were able to come out and make that happen today," Silva said.
