In the second Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game of the 2019 season the Mavericks improved to 6-6 overall and are now an even 1-1 in conference. The 21 goals came from 10 different Mavericks and were good for 10 assists. Brandon Wilson finished with a career-high five goals and now has recorded back-to-back games with hat-trick performances. Tonight's hat-trick was recorded in the first half with 13:20 remaining in the second quarter. He finished with a total six points by adding one assist. Jake Keyes finished with three goals which was his second hat-trick game of the season. The Mavericks dominated possession by winning 24-of-32 faceoffs which was split between Michael Marino (19-of-21), Cooper Tokar (5-of-10) and Carson McCarron (0-of-1). The ThunderWolves were led by Tommy Vassallo who finished with four goals and six shots on goal. The ThunderWolves utilized three goalies who recorded a combined 13 saves. In the net for the Mavericks was Nick Wilson who was awarded his second win of the season. He finished with two saves and only allowed three goals. The Mavs outworked the ThunderWovles on both ground balls (53-30) and shots (58-30). The Mavericks opened up the game with a 6-0 run that lasted until the 10:54 mark in the second quarter when CSU-Pueblo recorded their first goal of the game. The Mavs and ThunderWolves each exchanged two goals before Brandon Wilson recorded back-to-back goals and gave the Mavs an 11-3 lead just before the half. The team recorded two more goals before the break to hold a 13-3 advantage. During the second quarter the Mavericks finished with 10 goals. Out of the locker room CSUP registered the first goal, but was outscored 5-2 during the 15 minute span to give the Mavs a 18-5 lead entering the final quarter. Despite two extra-man opportunities in the fourth quarter the Maverick were able to outscore the ThunderWolves 3-2 and close the game on a 21-7 advantage. The Mavs have limited their opponents to under double-digit goals six times this season which all resulted in wins. Next Up The Mavericks have a quick turn around and will face Adams State on Sunday at 11 am as a part of a Colorado Mesa lacrosse double-header. The women's team will take on Adams State that same day at 2 pm.
