For a fourth-straight year, the 15th-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team is victorious in their season opener. The Setters begin 2019 on a positive note following a 23-11 triumph over Dominican College on Saturday afternoon at Pace Stadium. The Blue and Gold's onslaught was sparked by a 15-0 run to open the contest. In fact, the Setters took that 15-0 lead into halftime after putting together a clean sheet in the first half. The Chargers' first goal of the game came at the 13:34 mark of the third quarter. Graduate transfer Connor Vercruysse (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) began his Pace career by leading the team with 7 points in the win. Vercruysse wrapped up the afternoon with six goals—five in the first half—and an assist. Senior Daniel Keenan (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) notched the Setters' first two tallies of the game, before finishing with six points on four goals and two assists. Bradley Paterson (Caldwell, NJ/Depaul Catholic) (three goals), and sophomore Rawil Herrera (Stony Point, NY/Albertus Magnus) (two goals) were the final two Setters to record multiple tallies in the game. Eight other Blue and Gold players also found the back of the net to put the total at 12 different Setters with goals on Saturday. Freshman goalkeeper Louis Ragusa (Ossining, NY/Yorktown) earned the win in his collegiate debut, allowing just two goals across more than 38 minutes of action. He finished the victory with four saves. Andrew Pinto (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) and Zachary Powdermaker (Allentown, NJ/Allentown) also played in net as Pace was able to have 43 different players see game action. Up Next The Blue and Gold will hit the road next Saturday to take on No. 6 LIU Post at 1 p.m.
