The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team scored nine goals in the third quarter to lead them to a 14-7 victory over the visiting Chargers of Dominican College in a non-conference game played today at Duffy Field. Following the loss Dominican is now 1-2 on the young season, while SMC improves to 1-0. Dominican struck first as sophomore Lorcan Teahan (Sparkill, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the game off the dish from Marcos Pierce (Middleburg, Va.) with 12:45 left in the first quarter. The Purple Knights rallied with four unanswered goals that spanned the rest of the first quarter and into the second to take a 4-1 advantage with 10:35 left in the half. Teahan broke the run with his second game goal off the pass from Daniel Carson (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 4-2 at the intermission. Freshman attacker Luke Martini (Abington, Mass.) opened the scoring in the third quarter with an unassisted goal to bring DC within a score, but a 7-0 Purple Knight run regained a 11-3 lead with over seven minutes to play in the quarter. Carson broke the run with a man-up goal with the assist going to Ryan Fischer (Monroe, N.Y.) and Martini would later record his second game goal to make the score, 13-5 at the end of three quarters of play. Attacker Nicholas D'Alessandro (Levittown, N.Y.) scored two man-up goals off passes from Pierce to start the fourth quarter and the last goal belonged to Saint Michael's for the 14-7 win. D'Alessandro, Martini and Teahan scored two goals each in the loss. Pierce had a game leading three assists. Starting goalie John Rooney (Bellmore, N.Y.) made 12 saves in 44:28 of action in the net, while Patrick Gifford (Galloway, N.J.) had four saves in over 15 minutes. The Chargers are scheduled to have their home opener on Wednesday afternoon when they host Molloy College at 4pm at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
