Despite three goals from Coleman Jacobs and two more from Ian Heggblod, the Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team dropped its third straight contest on Saturday, falling to No. 14 Saint Leo, 17-7. The loss pushes ERAU's season mark to 8-5, 0-3 in conference play, while the Lions improve to 7-3 and 2-0 in SSC contests. In addition to Jacobs' and Heggblod's contributions, ERAU got goals from Kyle Dalrymple and Gage Poindexter. Lucas Fraser made 12 saves in a losing effort, while Angelo Hanson stopped three of the six shots on goal he faced in relief. Both sides were stellar defensively early on, with just two goals scored in the first quarter. Saint Leo tallied the first marker with 10:22 left in the period, while the Eagles answered with Dalrymple's goal coming just about five minutes after that. A total of 10 saves were recorded in the quarter, including four by Fraser. Heggblod notched his first goal just over two minutes into the second, giving ERAU its first lead of the day. It was a short-lived advantage as SLU came back with a goal just 12 seconds later to tie it at two. The Eagles took a 3-2 lead on Poindexter's goal with 10:16 on the clock, but the Lions responded quickly once again, tying things up at three just 73 seconds later. The score remained deadlocked until a Lion goal put the visitors ahead 4-3 with 4:34 left in the half, which would prove to be the halftime score. The third quarter saw Saint Leo score just 11 seconds into the period, the first of nine Lion goals in the quarter. Jacobs tallied the lone Eagle score of the period, as Saint Leo pulled ahead 13-4 by the end of the third. Jacobs added two more goals in the fourth and Heggblod netted his second of the game but SLU added four more goals of its own as the visitors left with a 17-7 victory. The Eagles will travel to Boca Raton next Saturday, April 6, to take on Lynn in a 1 p.m. contest.
