The Barton men's lacrosse team (5-8, 3-1) continued its rapid improvement in the later stages of the season with a 19-14 victory over Emmanuel (Ga.) (3-8, 2-2) Saturday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Stadium in Conference Carolinas action. Barton sophomore midfielder Jake Copio (Smyrna, Del.) had a dominant performance on offense – four goals and six assists for 10 total points – while sophomore midfielder Zachary Hodge (Murrieta, Calif.) added five scores as the Bulldogs ran their winning streak to four games. Copio leads the team with 51 total points. The Lions' Matthew Mitchell (Palm City, Fla.) scored five times as well but Emmanuel suffered their second consecutive setback. With the score tied at six with just under nine minutes left before halftime, Barton took control by scoring nine of the next 10 goals including the match-winner from Copio at the 8:02 mark of the second period. Freshman attacker Mason Chaney (Dunkirk, Md.) added three goals – giving him a team-leading 43 scores on the season – for the home team. Barton also held a decisive edge in both shots taken (45-35) and ground balls (41-26). In goal, Barton sophomore Matt Stocks (Endicott, N.Y.) earned the victory after registering a pair of saves while Emmanuel's Ethan Brundage (Leesburg, Va.) suffered the loss despite making 11 stops on the day. Barton – which was playing its home finale – will now hit the road to take on Mount Olive on Wednesday, April 10, at 4:00 p.m., in Mount Olive, N.C., while Emmanuel hosts North Greenville on Saturday, April 6, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
