Temple lacrosse notched its fourth-straight win with a 10-7 victory over UMBC Saturday afternoon. The Owls' record improves to 5-3 while the Retrievers drop to 2-3.
Recapping the Game
> UMBC struck first, scoring two goals in within the first four minutes before a pair of unassisted goals by Meghan Hoffman and Belle Mastropietro leveled the game at 2-2.
> The Retrievers would regain the lead briefly from a free position shot, only for the Owls to tie it back three minutes later. UMBC would respond with two more goals with four minutes left in the half.
> With less than a minute remaining in the first half, Bridget Whitaker and Olivia Thompson combined for a goal apiece to erase the deficit heading into the half.
> Temple opened the second half with two quick scores, taking a 7-5 advantage.
> Both teams traded goals for the Owls to take an 8-6 lead.
> A free position goal would be the last score for the Retrievers, with the Owls going on to score twice more to seal the win.
Statistically Speaking
> Whitaker and Thompson led the Owls in scoring with three goals apiece.
> Whitaker also led the team with five draw controls, while Maddie Gebert fired a team-leading seven shots.
> Maryn Lowell and Eryn Beal faced 12 shots from the Retrievers, with Lowell making four of the five saves.
Quotable
> "Having to come from behind at the beginning of the game and stay composed to win at the end is probably what I'm most proud of. I thought our defense played a really solid game down the stretch and that gave us the confidence and security to finish the game." – head coach Bonnie Rosen
Up Next
> The Owls will hit a two-game road stretch, heading to Villanova for more Big 5 play on March 11 before facing Mount St. Mary's next weekend.
