Eight different players scored today for the Marquette women's lacrosse team in a decisive 17-6 victory over Cincinnati on Friday afternoon at Valley Fields. Senior captain Megan Menzuber led the way with a career-high six goals, tying the school record for most goals in a game. Shea Garcia had a hat trick for MU while Madison Kane and Caroline Steller had two goals each in an explosive offensive performance. "We had a great week of practice and were focused on bouncing back from the Notre Dame game," Menzuber said. "The team took a lot from Sunday and we learned from our mistakes. We love playing at home inside our bubble and everyone came to play today." The Golden Eagles started fast, scoring six of the first seven goals of the game to take a commanding five goal lead. Menzuber scored four of her six goals in the first 30 minutes while Garcia and Menzuber had two apiece to give MU a 10-2 lead at the half. Caroline Peterson, Lydia Foust and Logan Dobratz tallied their first goals of the season in the second half while freshman Emma Soccodato netted the first of her career with just under six minutes to play. Her goal was MU's 17th and final tally of the afternoon. Emily Cooper and Ellie Henry tallied eight and six draw controls, respectively, which are career-best numbers for both. They helped MU win the draw control battle 17-7 over the Bearcats and created a plethora of offensive opportunities for their team. "This whole week the girls were just so eager to get back on the field," head coach Meredith Black said. "They played a complete game as a team. Zubes [Megan Menzuber] had six goals, but we had so many girls contribute to our success today. If she didn't have six, someone else would have scored them." Steller led the way with three assists while Kane had two and Menzuber and Peterson dished out one apiece. Senior goalie Jules Horning picked up the win after saving four shots and picking up five ground balls. UC was led by three goals from Kylie Nause, which all came in the second half. UP NEXT: MU heads east to play at Louisville on Monday, Feb. 17. Game time is set for noon CT.
