(U-M Lacrosse Stadium) Score: Johns Hopkins 14, Michigan 7 Records: U-M (0-2, 0-2 B1G), JHU (1-1, 1-1 B1G) Next U-M Event: Saturday, March 6 -- at Rutgers (Piscataway, N.J.), Noon ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team dropped its home opener, 14-7, against Johns Hopkins on Saturday (Feb. 27) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. Freshman Michael Boehm led the way for the Wolverines with two goals and an assist, while graduate student Avery Myers contributed two goals to the Michigan offensive attack. Michigan (0-2, 0-2 Big Ten) jumped ahead early, taking a 2-0 lead at the 10-minute mark of the first quarter. Johns Hopkins (1-1, 1-1 Big Ten) scored a goal to cut the Michigan lead to one with seven minutes remaining in the quarter, but a goal from sophomore Jacob Jackson gave Michigan a 3-1 lead after one quarter. The Wolverines and Blue Jays traded goals at the beginning of the second quarter, giving the Wolverines a 4-2 lead with 11 minutes left in the half. Johns Hopkins then ripped off four straight scores, giving them a 6-4 lead with 2:41 left in the opening half. Myers put an end to the run by ripping an underhand shot to beat the halftime buzzer, sending the game to halftime with Johns Hopkins ahead, 6-5. Joey Epstein had four first-half goals for the Blue Jays, while the Wolverines were paced by a pair of Boehm goals in the first 30 minutes. The Wolverines were held scoreless in the third quarter, and Johns Hopkins scored six goals to give them a 12-5 lead entering the final quarter. U-M traded goals with the Blue Jays in a fourth quarter that featured both teams scoring two goals each. Junior Bryce Clay scored his first of the season on an assist from Boehm, his third point of the day. Myers scored his second of the day with three minutes remaining in the game. Sophomore Michael Cosgrove scored the Wolverines' first goal of the game, which also was the first goal of his collegiate career. Junior faceoff specialist Nick Rowlett went 11-for-22 from the dot and led the team with seven ground balls. Junior goalie John Kiracofe had seven saves in the net on the game. Tweet of the Game
