HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 1, 2017) – Junior Tommy Dawson scored an overtime goal sending the Stevens Institute of Technology Men's Lacrosse team to a stunning, come-from-behind victory over No. 3 Ithaca College in an Empire 8 Conference matchup Saturday. Dawson's goal capped a five-goal turnaround for the Ducks, who were trailing 10-6 with 11:00 to play in regulation. "Ithaca runs an aggressive 10-man ride and we planned this week to take some long shots," head coach Gene Peluso said. "Our goalie got the ball to our defenseman, Daniel Crotty, and he made a great shot on goal. We have practiced those, but it didn't go as well in practice. I am glad he "saved' the goal for the game!" Dawson totaled three goals and an assist on the afternoon and junior John Boutureira added three goals for the Ducks, who improved to 7-3 on the year and 2-0 in Empire 8 play. Jack Shumway recorded three goals and three assists to lead Ithaca, who dropped its second straight game to fall to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the E8. "I am really proud of the fight our guys had today," Peluso added. "We won faceoffs, we made BIG saves and we geared down to get the win." "We believe we have a talented group of players," the eighth-year head coach continued. "We also know that Ithaca is a great team and a great program and we are happy that we got the 'W'!" Nine different players recorded points for the Ducks, led by Dawson's four. Sophomores Max Bailey and Dean Peluso each had a goal and an assist. Crotty, Freshman Brendan Monteleone and senior Tim Leahey each recorded a goal. Senior Connor McKeon led Stevens with three assists and goalkeeper Carson White had two, including the helper on Crotty's highlight reel goal. . Defensively, Boutureira led the team with two caused turnovers as the Ducks caused seven Ithaca turnovers. Bailey, Peluso, senior Chris Contino and junior Dallas Creamer each picked up three ground balls and sophomore Nicholas Carnovale went 10-for-17 in the faceoff circle. The Ducks outshot the Bombers 37-34 and were 12-of-17 on clear attempts. In addition to his two assists, White made seven saves in earning the win. Peluso and Dawson netted first-quarter goals giving the Ducks and early 2-0 lead. Ithaca responded with three consecutive markers to take a 3-2 advantage early in the second quarter. Monteleone's tally with the Ducks down a player sent the teams into halftime deadlocked at 3. Boutureira and Crotty scored the first two goals of the second half to again claim a two-goal lead for the Ducks before Shumway and Kaelan Fitzpatrick scored to tie the teams after three quarters. The decisive fourth quarter began with Boutureira's 10th goal in two games. Ithaca rallied for five consecutive goals to take a 10-6 lead with 10:58 to play. Leahey's up goal began the Stevens rally. Boutureira followed 1:30 later to draw the Ducks within two. Dawson tallied an up goal for Stevens and Bailey completed the rally with a 1:09 to play. Ithaca attempted to score the game-winning goal shortly before the buzzer, but White was up to the task and kept Stevens alive. Dawson's heroics sent crowd of over 500 people into a frenzy and the junior was mobbed by his teammates after scoring the game-winning goal.
