The UIndy men's lacrosse team (8-1, 3-0 GLVC) picked up its third conference win of the season on Sunday afternoon at Key Stadium, downing the visiting Shorter Hawks (27-4, 0-3 GLVC) by a final score of 27-4. Parker Kump finished with a program-record 10 points in the win, netting seven goals and handing out three assists. HOW IT HAPPENED The Greyhounds were relentless on Sunday, scoring 14 unanswered goals to open the contest. Kump followed scores from Eric Lounds and Luke Allen before Ian Edwards tallied his first collegiate goal as the Hounds jumped out to a 5-0 advantage. Drew Billig sandwiched in a second-quarter goal between three more Kump netters, but it was also Andrew Simonich and Erich Wiitala finding themselves in the scoring column to join Edwards as first-time scorers. The Hawks were able to tack on a goal late in the quarter, trailing 17-1 at the break. The UIndy freshmen controlled the second half, recording seven of the team' 10 goals in the final 30 minutes. Edwards scored three more times, finishing with four goals, as Brian Robb's late third-quarter goal stretched his scoring streak to five games. Jarod Kimble was solid between the pipes, making four stops on five shots in the first half, while the faceoff unit won 26-of-34 attempts. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE The Greyhounds scored 27 times on Sunday, surpassing the previous program record of 25 goals back on March 6, 2017 in the 25-5 thrashing of Ohio Valley. Parker Kump, along with Shawn Kimble, led the scoring on the day as well, netting six goals. Do not let the UIndy defense slip by in Sunday's offensive-heavy win, as the back line caused 15 of Shorter's 19 turnovers. Jordan McKenzie recorded three himself to lead the squad, while Kyle Bash, Eric Lounds, and Duncan Weir each had a pair of caused turnovers. Jack Belobrajdic accumulated five ground balls and one caused turnover in the win. John Pickett went seven-for-11 in his faceoff opportunities against the Hawks, securing six ground balls as a result. Luke Allen finished with a hat trick in the win, marking the first time junior has scored since the season opener against Wheeling Jesuit. UP NEXT The Greyhounds will step out of conference action this coming Wednesday for a battle at Lake Erie in Painesville, Ohio. UIndy is 2-1 against the Storm in the programs' short history.
