Senior midfielder Jesse Oliver found the back of the net with 2:07 left to play in overtime this evening to lift the No. 10 Queens University of Charlotte Royals over Lenoir-Rhyne University, 12-11. The win over the Bears is the first for the Royals since the 2017 season and it moves Queens to 7-1 on the year and 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Bears drop to 1-6 on the season and 1-2 in the league. A 4-0 run by the Royals put the home team in front, 6-2, with 9:10 to play in the second quarter, but the Bears answered with four-straight to knot the game at 6-6 by the halftime break. In the third, Lenoir-Rhyne scored three in a row to take a 9-6 lead. However, Queens was able to cut the margin to two, 10-8, on a late quarter goal from Kevin Barry to head into the final 15 minutes trailing 10-8. The Royals then outscored the Bears 3-1 in the fourth as Reed Murphy tallied the game-tying goal with 13 seconds to play sending the game into overtime where Oliver scored the game-winner. Quinn Tallant led the Royals offensively with three goals this evening while Murphy and Oliver each finished with three points on two goals and one assist. Kyle Hornik collected the win in goal after totaling 14 saves. Queens outshot Lenoir-Rhyne, 49-35, though the Bears edged the Royals in shots on goal, 25-24. The Royals won the battle for ground balls, 33-31, and won 17-of-25 face-offs with Drew Flack winning all 17. Flack also finished with 10 ground balls to lead all players on the field. Joe Buduo led the Bears with five points today on four goals and one assist. Eric Dickinson finished with a hat trick. In goal, Noah Johnson totaled 12 saves. Queens will continue SAC play on the road at Tusculum University on Saturday, March 23. Play is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
