PURCHASE, N.Y. - Senior attackman Nick LoCicero (Lynbrook, N.Y.) recorded three goals and three assists as the Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team defeated SUNY Maritime 11-2 to improve to 4-0 on the season. Salve Regina won the opening draw and scored 12 seconds in to take the early 1-0 lead. Maritime was able to even the game back up at one as Connell took a pass from Pellegrino and buried the shot with 12:18 left on the clock in the opening quarter. The Seahawks added one more goal in the first quarter and three more in the second quarter to take a 5-1 lead into the halftime break. In the third quarter, Salve Regina added four more unanswered goals and took a 9-1 lead into the fourth, before adding the first two of that quarter on a 10-goal run to take an 11-1 lead. After getting a man-up opportunity late in the game, the Privateers capitalized and tallied their second of the game with 18 seconds left in regulation to cap off the scoring on the afternoon. Final stats saw the Seahawks hold a 43-25 advantage in shots, while the Seahawks were 20-of-23 on clears with Maritime clearing the ball 24 times in 28 chances. Ground balls were also in favor of the Seahawks at a 29-20 clip, with faceoffs close as Maritime won seven and Salve Regina winning nine. Maritime's man-down squad held Salve Regina off the board in all but one extra man opportunity as the Seahawks were 1-of-8 in their chances. The Privateers were 1-of-3 with the man advantage. Maritime (1-2) will look to rebound on March 10 at 8 p.m., when the Privateers visit the Maine Maritime Mariners in the opening game of the 2017 Maritime Cup. Maritime will meet Mass. Maritime the following day at 2 p.m. in search of their second consecutive title. Salve Regina (4-0) will take its unbeaten record into road action on Wednesday afternoon, when the Seahawks visit the Mount Ida Mustangs in Newton, Mass. for a 3:30 p.m. start.
