FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 8, 2022 – Dean College junior Greg Centeio (Fairhaven, Mass.) scored six goals to lead the men's lacrosse team to an 18-7 win over Mitchell Tuesday afternoon at Grant Field. Dean improves to 3-0 and will have a lengthy break before traveling to Saint Joseph's (Maine) for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener on Saturday, March 19. Mitchell drops to 1-4 and will plat at Purchase on Saturday at noon. Centeio added three assists. Sophomore Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) registered four goals and two assists, while sophomore Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) finished with two goals and three assists. Freshman Aidan McCarthy (Whitman, Mass.) notched his first collegiate points with a goal and an assist. Sophomore Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) won 20-of-23 faceoffs and picked up eight ground balls. Senior Ethan LePain (Coventry, R.I) led Mitchell with three goals and one assist. Senior James Giovanniello (Staten Island, N.Y.) contributed two goals and an assist. Sophomore Weston Schumacher (Sherborn, Mass.) caused a game best four turnovers. Dean senior Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.) earned the win with three goals allowed and two saves in the first half. Junior James Rollins (Old Lyme, Conn.) gave up three goals and made six saves in 26:18, while senior Andrew McKenna (North Palm Beach, Fla.) worked the final 3:42 and made one save with one goal allowed. Mitchell freshman John Grieco (North Branford, Conn.) made 11 saves and allowed 12 goals in the first half, while freshman Steven Turchetta (Oakdale, Conn.) surrendered six goals and made 11 saves in the second half. The Bulldogs got out to a 7-1 lead after the 15 minutes behind four goals from Centeio. Dean widened its lead in the second by outscoring Mitchell 5-2 to go on top 12-3 at the half. Alvarez-Segee had two goals and an assist to lead the Bulldogs in the frame. Centeio scored two more in the third to give Dean a 17-4 lead after 45 minutes. Mitchell received a hat trick from LePain in the fourth, but Dean cruised to the 18-7 victory.
