The No. 5/6 LIU Post men's lacrosse team moved to 2-0 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play Saturday afternoon at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium after overcoming Roberts Wesleyan College 17-4. Sophomore William Snelders was unstoppable early as he gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead thanks to his 22nd goal of the season with 12:40 on the clock. The Redhawks made it a 1-1 game with 11:29 left in the quarter but the Pioneers responded with goals from Snelders at 10:43 and 6:23 to give LIU Post a 3-1 lead. Junior Mike Kadnar and freshman Jake Gillis also added goals, helping the Pioneers take a 5-1 lead into the second quarter. Snelders found Gillis for a goal just 31 seconds onto the second quarter to improve the Pioneers' lead to 6-1 and while Roberts Wesleyan was able to respond with another goal of their own, they had no answer for the LIU Post offense as it ran away the quarter thanks to another goal from Gillis along with goals from junior Dean Patsos, Snelders, senior Steven Frank and Kadnar. The second half was all LIU Post as the potent offense continued. Junior Alex Russell set the tone early, capitalizing on assist from junior Nick Grassa with 13:80 remaining in the quarter. The Pioneers would add five more goals and Roberts Wesleyan one more prior to three-quarter time which saw LIU Post head into the final quarter with a 16-3 advantage. Junior Dylan Villari found the back of the cage for his second goal of the game with 14:31 left in the fourth quarter to give the Pioneers a 17-3 lead. Roberts Wesleyan would add one more goal but the Pioneers held on for the 17-4 triumph. Senior Connor Farrell went 15-for-21 on face-offs and collected a game-high 12 ground balls. Gillis's six goals led the game while Snelders finished with five. Patsos, Farrell and Gillis tied for the game-high in assists with two each. Senior John Harding had a game-high three caused turnovers while senior goalkeeper Bryan Ochs recorded six saves on the afternoon. The Pioneers will travel Lakewood, New Jersey on Tuesday, March 26 to take on Georgian Court University (3-6) at 3:30 p.m.
