- University of Lynchburg's men's lacrosse team fell in an early hole Saturday and couldn't get out, falling 14-7 to No. 10 York on Lynchburg's Shellenberger Field. Nate Shafer had a hat trick for the 14th-ranked Hornets (1-3), the sophomore's third multi-goal game this season, and Lynchburg also got a pair of scores from Brett Rogers. The Spartans (3-1) dominated the face-off X, winning 20 of 24 tilts at midfield, and they translated that into a 7-2 lead after the first quarter of play. York extended the lead to 12-4 at halftime, but the Hornets battled back early in the third quarter, taking advantage of an unreleasable penalty to score two quick goals. But after the flag expired, both teams hunkered down on defense and didn't allow any more scoring in the third. York outscored the Hornets 2-1 in the final period to bring the score to its final standing. YC got hat tricks out of Brendan O'Sullivan and Chandler Schmidt, and J.T. Kidd won all 20 of the Spartans' face-offs. Colin Dean added three assists for the Hornets. The two programs dedicated the game to the One Love Foundation for the fourth-consecutive season, and they have raised more than $600 for One Love at the time of this release.
