MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (1-2) fell by a score of 20-4 to Roberts Wesleyan (2-0) inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium Tuesday night. The Lions scored their first goal of the contest with 4:35 left in the third quarter as Spencer Andrews ripped a shot over the right shoulder of Pat Hynes. Zach Wright scored his second of the season just two minutes later for Mars Hill's second goal of the contest. The Lions entered the final frame down 18-2 and surrendered the first two goals of the frame. Andrews' second of the game was scored with 8:27 remaining and Jackson Courson scored the final tally of the contest, his second of the year, with just over four minutes remaining. Roberts Wesleyan jumped out of the gates early and often on Mars Hill, scoring seven goals in both the first and second quarters to enter the half up 14-0. Mike Richardson bookended the first quarter with two goals. Cody Menzies struck twice and added one assist while Matt Gademskie and Hunter Lemieux each recorded one goal and one assist in the first frame. Menzies and Collin Waden each scored two goals in the second while Waden added an assist. Lemieux, Michael Pierog and Amelio Ripa also added goals in the frame. Scoring his fifth of the contest, Menzies extended the Redhawks lead to 15-0 6:15 into the third quarter. Kyle Dunham's first of the game followed less than one minute later. Menzies (5g, 1a) and Gademske (3g, 3a) each led the Redhawks with six points while Gavin Marsh added four assists. Andrews led the Lions with two goals. Sam Schubach went 13-for-13 in the faceoff circle and picked up a game-high 10 groundballs. Joel Borman made 13 saves in the losing effort while Hynes earned the win, making 11 saves on the night. Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, February 23rd when they travel to take on Emmanuel. Faceoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
