Hackettstown, NJ – Stockton University (4-1) scored seven consecutive goals in the middle of the game and handed Centenary (3-1) its first loss of the season by an 11-6 count. Colin Shea (Rumson/Rumson-Fair Haven) sparked the Ospreys to victory with four goals and an assist.
Seven Stockton players scored one goal apiece including Tommy Gallo (Clinton/North Hunterdon) who also dished two assists to finish with three points. Stockton outshot the Cyclones 48-27 in the game.
Freshman Erik Anderson (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) scored his first career goal and Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern) struck 1:33 later to give the Ospreys an early 2-0 lead. Centenary answered with three straight tallies in the last nine-and-a-half minutes of the first quarter for a 3-2 edge.
Shea scored the only three goals of the second quarter to stake Stockton to a 5-3 advantage at the break. Just 49 seconds into the third period, Shea netted his fourth straight marker. Shane Park (Kinnelon/Kinnelon), Brandon Nunez (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) and Chris Kaczmarski (Somers Point/Mainland) followed to give Stockton an insurmountable 9-3 advantage.
Centenary halted the onslaught with two goals in the last five minutes of the third quarter but Gallo and Zack Aho (Shamong/Seneca) found the net early in the fourth stanza for an 11-5 lead. The Cyclones got one back with 10:18 remaining before Stockton protected the lead the rest of the way and won 11-6.
Sophomore transfer Justin Ruiz (Holmdel/Holmdel) saw his first action in a Stockton uniform and made nine saves to earn the victory in goal. Tyler Bollard (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) won 16 of 20 faceoffs (80%) and Lance Pecina (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) paced the Osprey defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
