In the first game of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season the Mavericks fell to Westminster 14-8. On their season the Mavericks are now 5-5 and 0-1 in RMAC while the Griffins improved to 3-6 and 1-0 in RMAC play. Four different Mavericks scored with Joe Wulforst IV leading the way with three goals. This was the first hat trick of the New York natives season. Jack Griffin and Michael Dasch Jr. each recorded two goals while Carson Schwark finished with one goal. As a team the Mavericks took 42 shots and 15 shots on goal. They were perfect in clears for the game completing each of their 16 attempts. The Mavs picked up 39 ground balls and were led by Michael Marino who totaled eight. As the Mavs faceoff man Marino won 18-of- 26 faceoffs. The Griffins were led by Nick Marcy who finished with four assists and Kolton Atkinson who finished with three goals. Dasch Jr. recorded the first goal of the game which was followed by five straight goals from Westminster which included two man up goals and took the game into the second quarter as the Griffins led 5-1 with 9:22 remaining in quarter two. The Mavericks recorded two more goals before halftime to only be down by two goals at 5-3. Coming out of the locker room the Mavericks were outscored 6-2 in the third quarter and were down 11-5 with one final quarter remaining. Griffin found the back of the net to begin the fourth quarter and was followed by Wulforst IV who hit back-to-back goals and cut the lead to three at 11-8 with 8:00 minutes remaining, but the Griffins closed the game with three straight goals to secure the win at 14-8. Next Up In a non-conference match up the Mavericks will face Johnson & Wales University on April 9 at 6 pm on Walker Field before they resume RMAC play on April 12 at 7 pm in Grand Junction.
