When and Where: March 16, 2019 – Hooksett, N.H. (Penmen Stadium) Score: Pace University 13, Southern New Hampshire University 4 Records: Pace 5-0 (1-0 Northeast-10 Conference), SNHU 2-3 (1-1 Northeast-10 Conference) Sophomore Cole Jacobsen (Dartmouth, Mass.) notched three points on two goals and an assist, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team endured a big second half from eighth-ranked Pace University in Saturday's 13-4 loss at Penmen Stadium. STANDOUT PERFORMERS: Jacobsen's two goals tie him for the team lead with 10 on the season. Freshman Chris Valentine (Derry, N.H.) and redshirt-freshman Landon Goguen (Mattapoisett, Mass.) also added scores for the Penmen. HOW IT HAPPENED: Southern New Hampshire scored the game's first goal just 45 seconds in, as a diving effort from Jacobsen enabled him to find the back of the net. Pace scored the next three goals in a span of 4:15 to grab a 3-1 advantage with 9:11 left in the opening quarter. Jacobsen scored again on another individual effort to cap the scoring with 53 seconds left and make it a one-goal game. Valentine opened the second-quarter scoring just over three minutes in off an assist from sophomore Stephen Dubois (Goffstown, N.H.) to the game, 3-3, with 11:49 remaining before halftime. The Setters responded with three straight, however, to take a 6-3 lead into the locker room. Pace picked up where it left off, outscoring SNHU, 3-0, in the third quarter and then potting the first four of the final frame to seize a commanding 13-3 advantage with 2:33 left. Jacobsen would set up Goguen in the final minute to cap the scoring. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Freshman Alex Sturgess (Derry, N.H.) made six saves for the Penmen in the opening 57:27 of action, while senior Jacob Dionne (Windham, Maine) did not see a shot over the final 2:33. Louis Ragusa turned away 17 of the 20 bids he saw over the first 57:27, with Zachary Powdermaker making one of two saves down the stretch. Southern New Hampshire outshot Pace, 41-28, including 24-13 after halftime. SNHU also captured 14 of the game's 20 faceoffs, with senior Andrew Liu (Piedmont, Calif.) going 12-for-18 at the faceoff X. Pace converted just one man-up opportunity on five chances, while the Penmen were 0-for-4. NOTES: Jacobsen's two goals give him 25 in two years with the Penmen, as he is now just five goals from matching his rookie-campaign output. WHAT'S NEXT: The Penmen return to action Saturday, March 23 (3 p.m.) when they take on Adelphi University. The next home game for SNHU is Saturday, March 30 (12 p.m.) when it plays host to Assumption College at Penmen Stadium.
