The Albright men's lacrosse team was defeated by Widener 17-7 in MAC Commonwealth play Wednesday evening at Shirk Stadium With the loss Albright falls to 1-7 overall and 1-4 in MAC Commonwealth play. Widener advances to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in conference. Widener opened the game up scoring back-to-back goals to give them an early lead at the 11:43-mark. Albright responded with a goal from sophomore Harrison Bodwell at the 6:47-mark to put the Lions on the board. The Pride closed out the quarter with back-to-back goals to give them a 4-1 lead going into the second stanza. Widener scored the first goal of the second quarter to put them up 5-1. Senior John Gilbert registered his first goal of the game with the assist from junior Cole Genneken to cut Albright's deficit to 5-2 at the 8:37-mark of the second quarter. The Pride responded with a goal at the 8:11-mark to give them a 6-2 lead. The Lions fought hard with Bodwell and Gilbert registering back-to-back goals to bring the score to 6-4 with 5:10 left in the half. Widener closed out the half with three unanswered goals to bring their lead to 9-4. Gilbert tallied his third goal for the game with the feed from Genneken to open the second half, bringing the score to 9-5 at the 12:56-mark. The Pride fired back with three unanswered goals to bring their lead to 12-5 with 3:25 left in the third quarter. Gilbert snapped Widener's run with a goal assisted, again, by Genneken at the 2:42-mark. Widener closed the quarter with a goal to bring their lead to 13-6. The Pride opened up the fourth stanza with back-to-back goals. Junior Eric Broadway registered the Lion's lone goal of the fourth quarter to cut their deficit to 15-7 at the 8:02-mark. The Pride scored the final two goals of the game to solidify their 17-7 win over the Lions. Widener held a 55-30 shot advantage over Albright registering 37 on goal. Widener also won the battle for ground balls 54-44. Despite receiving the loss for the Lions, sophomore goalkeeper Ethan Hinman had a career night making 20 saves for a .541 saves percentage in 60 minutes of play. Senior goalkeeper Carter Landry receives the win for the Pride with 12 saves. Gilbert led the Lions in scoring on the evening with four goals on four shots. Genneken assisted all four of Gilbert's goals to tally four points. Bodwell registered two goals while Broadway added one. Widener's Connor Heisman had a game-high nine points on six goals and three assists. The Lions return to action Saturday at 1pm as they travel to Wilkes in MAC crossover play.
