The 12th-ranked University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team took down the Hawks of Chowan University in Conference Carolinas competition Thursday afternoon in Murfreesboro, N.C. GAME INFORMATION Score: No. 12 Mount Olive 11, Chowan 8 Records: Mount Olive (7-2, 1-0 CC), Chowan (3-4, 0-1 CC) Location: Vincent Field, Murfreesboro, N.C. How It Happened Play-by-Play FIRST QUARTER Mount Olive's Tim Collins scored the game's first goal five minutes into the game to give UMO the early lead. Chowan eventually tied the game five minutes later with a goal with 3:27 left on the clock and the scored remained deadlocked going into the second. SECOND QUARTER In the second frame, the Hawks took control of the game scoring three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead with 53 seconds left in the first half. Cody Graden drew the deficit to two with a last-second goal with under 20 seconds before the halftime horn and the Trojans trailed 4-2. THIRD QUARTER The third quarter was by far the highest scoring as eight goals were scored by the two teams. UMO finally battled back on the heels of a 3-to-1 run capped off with another Graden score that tied the game once more at five-all with 11:29 left in the quarter. Following a CU score, Mount Olive went on a three-goal run with scores from Brady Elbin, Tavian Cooley, and Jacob Ball that finally gave the Trojans the lead back 8-6. FOURTH QUARTER The Trojans scored first in the final quarter on a Brody Sullivan goal 51 seconds into the quarter. The two squads went on two exchange goals for the remainder of the game but UMO held off the Hawks for the 11-8 win. KEY STATS Jacob Ball led the Trojans with three goals. Will Urban (W: 6-2) tallied 17 saves on 25 shots faced. UP NEXT Mount Olive will return home to host Lees-McRae College Saturday in a Conference Carolinas match-up.
