ELMHURST, ILL.- The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team captured their first win of the 2020 season, defeating Aurora University for the first time in program history 15-9. The Run Down Final Score: Elmhurst 15, Aurora 9 Records: Elmhurst 1-5, Aurora 2-4 Location: Elmhurst, Ill. In the first quarter Aurora struck first, taking advantage of a man-up opportunity. Following the goal, Russell Langston secured the ground ball off of the wing and passed it to Ben Luke who finished a bounce shot to tie the game. Sante Dybowski finished a pass from Luke eight minutes into the game to start his five-goal day. Andrew Lentz extended the Bluejays lead to 3-1 after finishing a goal in transition. After the Bluejays defense held off the Spartans, Dybowski scored another goal before the end of the quarter (4-1). Braden King won the initial faceoff of the second quarter, dished the ball to Langston who hammered a shot in the top left corner. Following two saves from Jacob Delgado, Dybowski finished a pass to give Elmhurst a six-goal lead. Aurora responded scoring two goals with five minutes left in the half to pull to within four. Elmhurst scored two goals in the last five minutes of the half to reestablish their six-goal lead and carry a 9-3 advantage into the locker room. Aurora took advantage of an Elmhurst turnover scoring three minutes into the second half. Luke responded by scoring off of a pass from Jake Grebe eight minutes into the third quarter. The Spartans went on a three-goal run, trailing the Bluejays 10-7. Andrew Frerich scored with two minutes left to give Elmhurst a four-goal lead headed into the final quarter. After two goals from Cullen Nordeman in the fourth quarter, the Bluejays outscored the Spartans 4-2, securing their first win of the 2020 season. Elmhurst was led by Dybowski's five goals, shooting 83 percent on the day. Luke finished with a hat trick while adding an assist on the day. Yandall assisted on three goals on the day and scored one of his own. Jacob Delgado saved 14 shots while he picked up his first win of the season. Harrison Canaday and Jameson Morrison each scored three goals to lead the Spartans. Zach Bernstein added two goals to help lead Aurora on the day. Phillip Gianelle totaled 11 saves for the Spartans.
