FINAL SCORE: UMass 20, Vermont 7 BURLINGTON, Vt. – The UVM women's lacrosse team fell 20-7 to UMass in the non-conference finale on Wednesday afternoon. The setback drops the Catamounts to 3-2 while the Minutewomen improve to 5-2. RELATED LINKS Box Score | CatamounTV Highlights HOW IT HAPPENED UMass used 24 seconds of the game clock to generate a 1-0 lead but Maris Large took advantage of a penalty less than a minute later and tied the game. The Commonwealth netted seven straight goals before Ava Vasile stopped the run at the 17:20 mark. The Minutewomen added one more before Vasile tallied her second goal of the afternoon on a free-position attempt and trimmed the deficit to 9-3 with 14:24 left on the period. Large added one more goal at the 8:28 mark with an assist coming from Meghan O'Connor, but the Cats trailed at the break 14-4. The Minutewomen produced five goals to open the second half but Grace Giancola ended the scoring spree with a free-position goal with 8:35 to go in the game. UMass added one more goal, but O'Connor notched a pair of free-position goals in the last three-and-half minutes for the final score. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Vasile recorded a three-point game with two goals and one assist. She also logged three ground balls and won three draws. O'Connor matched Vasile with three points, the rookie's highest point total this season. In addition to the two goals, O'Connor was credited with an assist and picked up two ground balls.
