It took just a few minutes in the opening quarter for the No. 7 Panthers to lock down a dominating victory over fellow NE10 foe, American International College (0-2, 0-2 NE10) Saturday afternoon. This marks the 12th meeting between these two teams with Adelphi (2-1, 2-0 NE10) coming out on top in all of them. Nicolas Racalbuto notched the first score of the game just 1:40 after the initial whistle on a feed from Eamon Hall. It sparked a 6-0 run which was capped by two more goals from Racalbuto. AIC's Tyler Shrewsbury finally got his team on the board after squeezing one by Kevin Rice in cage. With 1:32 left to play in the first, David Sanzone assisted Cole Harriet for Adelphi's seventh goal of the period. Racalbuto and Quintin McKenna notched back-to-back tallies to open the second period, extending the lead to 9-2. Like the first 15 minutes, the Yellow Jackets were held to just one score, this time by Avery Foye, unassisted. Before heading into the half, the Panthers tacked on one more, this time from the stick of Michael Caiazzo, his first collegiate goal. At the break, head coach Gordon Purdie's squad held a 10-2 advantage and had scoring contributions from six different players. The Panthers were quick to add two more courtesy of Sanzone and Eamon Hall to push their lead to nine at 12-2. AIC was able to find the back of the cage twice against new cage minder, Billy Smithwick, however, with time expiring, Sanzone fired a shot past Nick Mee with one second to spare, bolstering their advantage to 13-4. For the final period, Brian Jockers took his turn in cage and allowed just one goal which came from Jason Vickery. A slashing penalty on Chris Pearce gave AIC a man-up opportunity in which they cashed in on thanks to Rusty Stone with his first score of the year. When the final whistle blew, Adelphi celebrated a 16-7 victory. It was a lopsided affair on the stat sheet with the Panthers landing 29 of their 44 shots on goal, holding a 46-20 ground ball advantage, and making good on 19 of their 22 clears. They were dominant in the circle, winning 19 of 25 face offs while causing 12 turnovers. A total of 13 players notched at least one point for Adelphi with Sanzone leading the way with five on three goals and two assists. Racalbuto led the scoring attach with four goals. Jared Pinto scooped up a game high 10 ground balls while Edward Perlstein was a perfect 11-11 in faceoff attempts. Between the four different goalies, they made eight saves with Jockers accounting for half of them. Adelphi is back in action on Wednesday, March 31 when they host the nation's top ranked team in Le Moyne College on Motamed Field. The Brown and Gold look to avenge their loss from earlier in the season after falling to the Dolphins, 12-7 back on March 20. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
