Senior captain Julia Collins (Clarksville, Md.) tallied a career high 10 points, recording a game-high five goals and a career-best five assists to lift Navy women's lacrosse (7-2, 2-0 Patriot League) to a 18-5 victory over Bucknell (2-6, 1-1 PL) on Saturday afternoon at Graham Field at Holmes Stadium. "We had a good game today and we came out strong," head coach Cindy Timchal said. "I am proud of the players. We stepped it up on the offensive end, which I was proud of. We wanted to have more integrity on the defensive end and I feel like we accomplished that today. I thought we did a good job of preparing for Bucknell's field which is used for both lacrosse and field hockey. The ball comes off of it fast and can take some high bounces. I think we did a good job of preparing and limiting the mistakes today." Julia Collins paced the offense early, recording four of her five goals in the first half. In addition, the senior captain dished out five assists, tying her career high in the category. Julia Collins' five goals tied for the most goals scored by a Midshipmen this season, while her five assists stand alone as the most helpers dished out in a game this year by Navy. "Julia was taking what the defense gave today," Timchal said. "Bucknell has a solid goalkeeper and she came up with some big stops early. Julia had a great game. She is willing to do anything to help the team win, scoring or passing the ball and she proved that today with her performance." In addition to Julia Collins, Jenna Collins (Clarksville, Md.) and Meg O'Donnell (Forest Hill, Md.) each added hat tricks on the day. Jenna Collins tallied four goals and an assist, while O'Donnell chipped in three goals. Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) and Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) added two goals apiece, while Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) and Natalie Irwin (Annandale, Va.) each scored. Defensively, Navy held Bucknell to just five goals on 13 shots, while making four saves. The Mids backline disrupted the Bison offense all game, leading to 21 turnovers by the home team. Navy caused 11 turnovers, led by Jenna Collins, Sarah Childress (Annapolis, Md.), and Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) who had two caused turnovers apiece. The Midshipmen used three goalies to limit the Bison to five goals. Starter Ingrid Boyum (Herndon, Va.) picked up the win, working 43 minutes between the pipes. She surrendered a pair of goals in the first half, while recording three saves. Boyum gave way to Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.), who clocked just over 15 minutes, allowing three goals with a save. Autumn Koh (Glenview, Ill.) closed out the game with a clean scorecard over the final 1:45. Neither team was able to find the back of the net early. Once Navy found the back of the net, the Midshipmen struck quickly, scoring three goals in a span of two minutes to go ahead 3-0. O'Donnell put the Mids on the scoreboard with a free-position goal with 21:07 on the clock. Larkin followed with an unassisted goal just 40 seconds later. With just under 19 minutes remaining in the first half, O'Sullivan took a pass from Jenna Collins and buried it in the back of the net to push the advantage to three. Bucknell responded with a pair of free-position goals to trim the margin to 3-2, but Navy closed out the half on an 8-0 run to take control of the game. Larkin's second goal of the game pushed the advantage to 4-2. The Mids used four straight goals from Julia Collins to extend their lead to 8-2 with just over nine minutes remaining in the half. O'Sullivan netted her second goal of the half off of a Julia Collins assist before O'Donnell converted a pair of free-position attempts to take an 11-2 advantage into halftime. The Mids continued the run in the second half, scoring the first four goals of the stanza. Jenna Collins scored back-to-back goals off of assists from sister Julia to push the lead to double-digits and start the running clock. Irwin scored her third goal in as many games to extend the lead to a dozen. The Collins twins connected once more as Jenna scored off a Julia pass to put Navy in front 15-2. The Bison ended the 12-0 run with a pair of free-position goals, but Jenna and Julia Collins answered with goals of their own to put the visitors ahead 17-4. Following a Bucknell goal, Heyward provided the final margin of 18-5 with her first goal of the season. Navy returns to action this Wednesday, as the Midshipmen play host to Lehigh at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Opening draw is slated for 5:00 p.m.
