The Marquette women's lacrosse team defeated Central Michigan 15-4 on Friday afternoon at Valley Fields to earn its third straight victory. Megan Menzuber and Lydia Foust led the way for MU with hat tricks while Hannah Greving, Mary Schumar and Caroline Steller scored two goals each. Madison Kane, Caroline Peterson and Leigh Steiner tacked on one goal apiece. Sophomore midfielder Hannah Greving set the tone early on for the Golden Eagles (3-2, 0-0 BIG EAST), scoring just over three minutes into the game to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. Megan Menzuber and Lydia Foust followed right behind her with goals to give MU an early three-goal cushion. CMU responded with a goal right before the 10-minute mark of the first half, a tally that would turn out to be their only goal of the first 30 minutes. The Golden Eagles dominated the rest of the half, scoring four unanswered goals to take a commanding 7-1 lead into halftime. Caroline Steller led the way with two goals while Mary Schumar and Leigh Steiner netted one apiece. MU outshot CMU 21-6 in the first 30 minutes of play and forced 11 Chippewas turnovers. It was more of the same to start the second half as the MU attack scored the first three goals to take a nine-goal lead. Foust and Menzuber scored goals just 14 second apart in the first minute of play in the second half. Caroline Peterson netted her first goal of the season off a backdoor pass from Madison Kane to put MU up 10-1. The Chippewas gained a glimmer of hope after scoring two straight goals in a five minute stretch in the second half to cut the lead to 10-3. MU quickly responded, however, as Foust scored a free position goal to seal a hat trick and Madison Kane got on the board with her second goal of the year. Senior goalie Sophia Leva (3-1) made her fourth start of the season and saved three shots. She let up just four goals during her time in net. Emily Cooper and Erin Dowdle had five draw controls each to help MU win the battle on the draw 13-8. The Golden Eagles outshot the Chippewas 41-17 and forced 18 CMU turnovers. Tyra Potter led Central Michigan with two goals while Hannah Potter and Courtney Burke had one apiece. NOTES: -Megan Menzuber moved up to a tie for No. 3 all-time in goals scored at Marquette (105).
