The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team dropped a 16-10 decision to No. 24 Georgetown in the Bearcats annual Pink Game, presented by UC Health, at Nippert Stadium. The Bearcats (6-4, 0-3 BIG EAST Conference) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but the Hoyas (5-4, 1-1 BIG EAST) rattled off five-straight goals and didn't look back, going ahead 10-5 at the half, held off a second-half UC comeback and won 16-10. Monica Borzillo led the way with four goals and two assists for the Bearcats. Three of her scores came in the final 10:28 and she sits with 29 goals, along with a team-leading 20 assists and 49 points on the year. It was the seventh time in 10 games the sophomore has found the net multiple times in a game. UC also got single scores from Kate Carney, Maria Collacchi, Amanda Donovan, Sam Mlkvy, Gianna Napoletano and McKenna Rushford. Georgetown's Morgan Ryan had three goals while Michaela Bruno, Taylor Gebhardt and Hannah Seibel all scored twice. Giuliana Durso tied a season high with 14 saves while her counterpart in net, GU's Haelle Chomo, had 11 stops. // CELEBRATING NGWSD The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics and Sports Administration celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) on Saturday. The initiative aims to promote the continued expansion of opportunities for girls and women to play sports, to live physically active lives, and to educate girls about college degrees in sport administration as well as careers in the field. For more information on National Girls and Women in Sports day, visit http://ngwsd.org/. Dr. Heidi Grappendorf was honored with UC's Girls and Women in Sports Award. Grappendorf is the Program Coordinator and an Associate Professor of Sport Administration academic program. For several years she has spearheaded the University of Cincinnati's annual NGWSD event to increase the awareness of local girls as to career opportunities in sport. Her research interests include how gender role conflict impacts women's careers in the management and leadership of sport organizations, women's career progression, and the overall underrepresentation of women and diversity in sport. Dr. Grappendorf is a founding member of Women in North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) and has served as their President since 2004. She has also participated in and co-chaired the NASSM Diversity Committee, served as the Vice President of Research for the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport, and Chaired the Council on the Status of Women and the Association for Women Faculty.
