The Beloit College men's lacrosse team dropped the season-opener Tuesday evening falling at the University of Dubuque 22-5. The Spartans' aggressive offense was too much for the Buccaneer defense as Dubuque scored three goals in each of the first three periods. Beloit's offense got on the board in the second with Andrei Prikhodko finding Hunter Brown for the Bucs' first goal of the season. Five minutes later, Prikhodko struck again this time on an unassisted score. Tobin Greenwald got in on the scoring action with an unassisted goal with just under two to play before halftime. Dubuque outscored Beloit 6-0 in the third to take an 18-3 advantage. Brown tallied his second goal of the contest off an assist from James Miranda with 9:19 on the clock int he fourth. Prikhodko picked up his second assist of the game this time setting up Desean Brown for the final goal of the game at the 1:40 mark. The Spartans were able to win a majority of the faceoffs allowing them to kickstart their offense quickly but the Buc defense caused more turnovers than their counterparts in the game. Greenwald added a team-high five groundballs and five caused turnovers to his goal in the game. Quinn Olsson added four groundballs while Ian Jacobs and Olaf Sorenson combined for six caused turnovers. Olsson recorded 11 saves in the contest but suffered the loss in the complete game in net. Up Next: The Bucs will head north to Ashland, Wisconsin to face Northland Saturday, February 29 at 1 p.m.
