PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's lacrosse team concluded their home schedule on Tuesday evening. Despite a hat trick by Nick Cornelia (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and a six goal fourth quarter, the Valiants were unable to overcome a 13-0 Farmingdale State run, falling to the Rams by a final of 19-8. With the loss, the Valiants fall to 3-11 on the season and 2-4 in Skyline Conference play. Cornelia led the offense with his three goal performance, his fourth hat trick of the season. The senior continues to lead the Valiants in scoring this season with 44 points on 32 goals and 12 assists. Jesse McGrath (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) also had a multi-score night with a pair of goals, bringing his season total to 29. After Thomas Stock put the Rams up 34 seconds into the contest, Larkin was able to pull the game back to even with his first of the night with 9:08 left in the period. The Rams, however, would take charge to close out the period in which they logged 11 shots to Manhattnville's three. Farmingdale extended their lead to 3-1 at the end of the quarter with goals by Hunter Lyons and Michael Cassano. The run continued into the second quarter with the Rams scoring three more times to go ahead 6-1 with four minutes remaining in the half. Cornelia got the Valiants back on the board with his first of the night with 3:26 left on the clock, but a Johnny McMahon goal with four seconds remaining put the Rams back ahead by five, a lead they would run away with to open up the third quarter. The Rams fired 21 shots out of the halftime break, scoring nine unanswered goals to pull ahead 16-2 entering the final 15 minutes of play. Farmingdale kept the foot on the gas, scoring three more to open up the fourth quarter to make it 13 consecutive goals across three periods. Despite trailing, the Valiants did not go away quietly, scoring the final six goals of the game to close out the night. Dillon Sanzari (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross (H.S.)) got the rally started with 8:27 to go off a pass from Patrick Magliocchino (Thornwood, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac). Melchi Agyapong (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) then netted his second of the year 39 seconds later before Cornelia notched his second of the night with the man advantage with 6:14 to go. Cornelia completed his hat trick at 4:50 before McGrath scored his two goals a minute apart to make the score 19-8 with 2:52 to go. The score held there the rest of the way as the Valiants end the year with a 1-6 record on GoValiants.com Field. Nick Padovani (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) won 12 faceoffs for Manhattanville in the game and would end the night as the team's ground ball leader with seven. Kevin Rafferty (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) collected six grounders, while McGrath, Sanzari and Bryson Buchanan (Paterson, N.J./Paramus Catholic) each earned five. McGrath also led the caused turnover effort with three. In net, Jason Frezza (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Portledge) played just under 49 minutes, making 16 saves. Cody Johnston (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) took over for the final 11:04, stopping both shots on net that he faced. Up Next The Valiants conclude the season on Saturday with a 3 p.m. game at Mount Saint Vincent.
