Freshman Livy Rosenzweig had a day Saturday afternoon, breaking two of the program’s freshman records and a single-game mark, as she contributed a personal-best nine points and eight assists to lead the 10th-ranked Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse team to a 20-8 win over Colgate at Beyer-Small ’76 Field. Rosenzweig’s eight assists broke the previous school record of seven, set by Rita Ciletti in 1986 and tied by Annie Thomas in 2013. She also moved her season total to 32 assists to break Thomas’ freshman record of 31 from 2012, while her two draw controls moved her season total to 64, which passes teammate Sabrina Tabasso’s previous freshman record of 62 draws won in 2016. With the win, Loyola (12-3 overall, 8-0 Patriot League) secures at least a share of the Patriot League regular-season title for a fifth-straight season. The Greyhounds will host the upcoming conference tournament at Ridley Athletic Complex. The semifinals are set for Friday, May 4, with the championship game scheduled for Sunday, May 6. In addition to Rosenzweig’s nine points, junior Hannah Powers contributed her seventh hat trick of the season, finishing with four goals and one assist, while Tabasso’s three goals mark her first hat trick of the season. Loyola also got two goals from junior Taylor VanThof and freshmen Bridget Ballard, Sam Fiedler and Elli Kluegel, and one goal from senior Hannah Savage, junior Lindsay Gamer and freshman Emily Beier. Savage added two assists, while senior Katrina Geiger, sophomore Holly Lloyd and Fiedler rounded out the scoring with an assist each. Tara Atkinson led the Raiders (9-6, 4-4) with four goals and Haley O’Hanlon added two. Colgate started the game’s scoring with a goal at 26:36, but the Greyhounds scattered six goals over a span of 13:11 to take a 6-1 lead at the 11:53 mark. Fiedler, Rosenzweig, Kluegel, Powers, Tabasso and Kamely all scored in the stretch, respectively, before Colgate snapped the streak with a goal at 9:51. The Raiders stretched their run to three-straight goals, cutting their deficit to two, at 6-4, before Rosenzweig found Ballard at 8:04 to halt the streak. Colgate had an answer at 7:34, but Fiedler, VanThof and Powers scored consecutive goals for Loyola to double-up on Colgate, 10-5, with 4:20 to play in the half. Colgate’s goal with 21 seconds left looked to send the two teams into the locker room with Loyola up 10-6, but VanThof won the ensuing draw control and Rosenzweig assisted Savage to regain the five-goal advantage, 11-6, at halftime. The two teams combined for eight goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half, with Loyola holding a 17-8 by the 18:24 mark, but neither team would score for the next 11 minutes. Rosenzweig dished out her fifth assist to start the half, to Powers at 28:43, before Colgate found its first score at 27:41. Kluegel then weaved and scored at 25:59, followed by a goal from VanThof, assisted by Fiedler at 24:24. Powers again finished a feed from Rosenzweig at 23:38, before Colgate scored at 22:09. That would be the final goal from the Raiders as Ballard’s goal from Rosenzweig at 21:24 gave Rosenzweig her eighth assist of the game and 32nd of the season. Tabasso then fired an unassisted strike into the back of the net to move the score to 17-8. Gamer broke the 11-minute scoreless drought at 7:38, before Geiger assisted Tabasso at 4:11. Beier closed out the scoring by finishing a feed from Lloyd with less than one minute to play. VanThof finished the game with 13 draw controls, while Geiger had a personal-best six ground balls and three caused turnovers. The Greyhounds will wrap up their regular season schedule next week with a midweek game at Georgetown before hosting Holy Cross at home on Saturday. Wednesday’s draw with the Hoyas is set for 3 p.m., with Saturday’s Senior Day game scheduled for 1 p.m.
