No. 11 Northwestern (3-0) put on an offensive showcase to down No. 17 Colorado (1-2), 15-8, at Martin Stadium on Thursday afternoon. Junior Selena Lasota paced the Wildcats by accumulating six points, thanks to three goals and three assists. The Wildcats outshot the Buffaloes, 30-20, while Colorado gave up seven more turnovers than Northwestern. Chicago's Big Ten Team has started the 2018 season with a strong statement, outscoring its opponents, 44-17, en route to a 3-0 record. Lindsey McKone opened up the scoring for the Wildcats, netting her first goal of the season with 24:47 remaining in the first half. Northwestern extended its lead to 2-0 at 22:56 with Danita Stroup's sixth of the season. Soon thereafter, the Wildcats again increased their lead to 3-0 with a nifty Holly Korn goal at 18:56. Lasota posted her first goal of the game — an unassisted performance — at 16:58 in the first half to increase the NU lead to 4-0. The Wildcats added a pair of goals in rapid succession in the final 10 minutes of the first period, with Sheila Nesselbush and Megan Kinna adding to the Northwestern cause and extending the NU lead to 6-0. Colorado tallied a free-position goal with 4:11 remaining in the period to finally get on the board, which was followed by another back-to-back-goal output from Northwestern's Kim Harker and Lasota. NU led, 8-1, after the first half, thanks to a 16-5 shot advantage. Chicago's Big Ten Team also out-performed the Buffaloes in draw controls, 6-4, in the first 30 minutes. The Wildcats came out firing in the second half with three unanswered goals, including a pair by Lasota. After six-straight Colorado goals, in the second half, Sheila Nesselbush converted an unassisted goal to regain some momentum. After the goal, NU led Colorado, 12-7, with 14:09 left in the contest. McKone added to the NU goal tally with 12:07 remaining in the contest to extend the Wildcat lead to six goals. Leighton Yenor added the last two goals of the game for Northwestern, bringing the score to 15-8. The Wildcats play next at No. 20 Duke on Sunday, February 18.
