The Lehigh women's lacrosse team fell behind 5-1 less than nine minute into the game, but came all the way back to pull even early in the second, helping set the stage for sophomore Sondra Dickey, who scored the game-winning goal with just 12 seconds remaining to give the Mountain Hawks (2-1) a thrilling 13-12 win on Saturday afternoon at Columbia Dickey and graduate student Julianne D'Orazio each scored four goals to lead the offense while junior Courtney Henig tallied five points (three goals, two assists) to eclipse 100 career points in the victory. "Columbia did some really nice things in the first half and capitalized on their opportunities on offense," said Lehigh head coach Jill Redfern. "It took us a little while to get in the groove of the game and close that gap. Our resilience was on display today on both ends of the field. We were really determined to get that tying goal and later, go-ahead goal. We were proud of our defensive effort too for locking down and getting some key turnovers in the second half, which was a big help." The win marked the 100th as collegiate head coach for Redfern. "I'm proud of all the players who were part of those wins," she said. "Winning is hard to do and to be a program that's winning consistently is a reflection of their efforts." D'Orazio filled up the stat sheet, posting five groundballs, five draw controls and four caused turnovers to go with her four goals. Dickey added an assist for five points, four groundballs, five draw controls and a caused turnover. "Difference makers on the defensive end today were Kierstyn Voiro who was in a matchup with one of their best players, Victoria Kalmaras (team-leading 62 points last season) Kierstyn's performance was key in limiting her (to a goal and two assists)," said Redfern. "Lexy (King) had a big game as the backer in our zone. She took charge of our defense." Trailing 5-1 early, three straight Mountain Hawk goals, two from Henig, quickly pulled Lehigh back within 5-4 with 13:28 left in the first half. The teams traded goals the rest of the stanza as Columbia went into halftime leading, 7-5. Lehigh opened the second half with two straight goals and six of the first eight. D'Orazio knotted the score at seven at the 28:33 mark, Columbia scored the next two, but the Mountain Hawks answered with a 4-0 run capped off by Henig's third of the day to give Lehigh a 12-10 lead with 10:10 remaining. The Lions at 7:23 and 4:19, setting the stage for Dickey's game-winner in the final seconds. It marked Lehigh's second straight thrilling one-goal win over Columbia. Last season, D'Orazio scored in overtime to give the Mountain Hawks a 12-11 victory. Final shots were 38-22 in favor of Lehigh while the Mountain Hawks held a 27-17 edge in groundballs. Columbia finished with a 14-13 edge in draw controls. Freshman Samanatha Sagi finished with five saves in goal for the Mountain Hawks. The Mountain Hawks are set to return home for another big nonleague matchup as they host No. 9 Princeton on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
