Neumann University (1-0) scored seven goals in the first quarter on its way to a 20-9 win over Alvernia University (0-1) Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Alvernia. The Knights scored seven straight to open the game, but Alvernia answered with two goals in the final 40 seconds of the first quarter then scored the first of the second to cut the deficit down to four goals, 7-3. Zach Bowman scored the Golden Wolves' first goal with 37 seconds left in the quarter. Neumann won the ensuing faceoff and took a quick shot which was turned away by Alvernia goalie Jacob O'Donnell. The Wolves pushed the ball in transition and Andrew Ritchie netted his first goal of the season with seven seconds on the clock. O'Donnell came up with another save on the first possession of the second quarter and once again the Wolves scored in transition--this time with Jarrett Abernethy scoring an unassisted goal. Neumann answered that goal and the teams traded goals over the final 11 minutes of the quarter with Neumann taking a 10-5 lead into halftime. Neumann scored six of the first seven goals of the third quarter and tacked on a man-up goal with two seconds left in the game. O'Donnell finished with 21 saves. Abernethy had three goals and two assists, and Sam St. Croix had a team-high four goals. Rich Marshall led the Knights with five goals.
