- The Randolph men's lacrosse team hosted Bethany College (W.V.) on Monday evening at WildCat Stadium. The 'Cats held the lead from beginning to end as they defeated the Bison 12-8. Randolph improves to 2-5 on the season. Bethany drops to 0-3. The WildCats scored the game's first goal one minute into the first quarter as Jake Helsley (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) assisted Matthew Piascik (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) on the score. Sean Landis' (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) solo shot at 9:13 put the 'Cats ahead 2-0. Bethany scored with 2:34 remaining in the quarter to make it 2-1. Randolph countered with goals by Tate Smith (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) and Helsley in the last minute of the quarter to go ahead 4-1. Jack Dolan's (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) goal 30 seconds into the second quarter put the WildCats up 5-1. Both teams traded off goals before the Bison tallied the last two of the quarter as Randolph went into the break on top 6-4. In the third quarter, Zach Miller (Louisa, Va./Fork Union Military Acad.) scored two straight goals to give the home team an 8-4 advantage. The teams traded off scores for the remainder of the game as the 'Cats held off any threat of a Bison comeback. Randolph outshot Bethany 35-29. The Bison had the edge in groundballs 34-32. Miller netted a hat trick for the WildCats. He also picked up seven groundballs and was 11-of-18 on faceoffs. Piascik scored twice as did Landis. Helsey had a five-point night with two goals and three assists. Gage Tutko (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) scored once and assisted on three other goals. Smith and Dolan both had a goal each. Lee Tookes (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) had five groundballs and a caused turnover. James Greenfield (Woodbridge, Va./Hilton) finished with four groundballs and two caused turnovers. Corey Boswell got the win between the pipes for the WildCats. He had 13 saves. Randolph returns to conference play on Saturday when it travels to Randolph-Macon. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
