A big offensive first half, followed by timely defense late helped Harvard women's lacrosse (6-9, 2-5 Ivy League) earn a 14-13 win over Cornell (7-8, 2-5 Ivy League) on Senior Day at Harvard Stadium. Senior Julia Glynn had five goals, junior Keeley MacAfee added three goals and an assist, and senior goalkeeper Olivia Gundrum made six saves to lead the Crimson, which outscored Cornell 12-5 in the first half, then held Cornell to one goal over the final 14:23 to earn the win. Harvard outshot Cornell 31-26 for the game and had an 18-15 edge on ground balls. The Big Red had a 15-14 margin on draw controls. Harvard's Claire Rushin led the Crimson with three ground balls and three caused turnovers for the game. The Crimson got off to a quick start, scoring five consecutive goals in the opening 7:47 of the game to take a 5-0 lead. Madison Conklin capped off the run with a pair of goals back-to-back, taking a cross-cage feed from MacAfee and beating Cornell goalkeeper Katie McGahan (five saves) with a low shot to cap off the run. Cornell cut the lead to two at 7-5 with 10:36 remaining in the half, but Harvard closed out the frame with five consecutive goals, keyed by a trio of goals from Glynn, who recorded her 200th career point on the third goal at 5:55. Hannah Keating's quick turnaround shot with 3:56 to go off a feed from Kristin Burnetta gave Harvard a 12-5 lead at the break. Cornell responded in the second half, outscoring Harvard 7-1 in the opening 15:37 of the frame. But Glynn's fifth goal of the afternoon on a free position shot from straightaway at 10:15 pushed the Harvard lead to two goals. Then, when Cornell cut the lead back to one, Gundrum made a great low stop on Taylor Reed's shot with 1:09 to play, helping Harvard seal the win. Game Notes - Harvard earned its first win over Cornell since March 1, 2014, and now leads the all-time series 24-16. - Julia Glynn (69 goals, 26 assists), finishes the 2018 season with 95 points, the third most in a single season in program history.
