Sara Dickinson exploded for three goals and three assists as the Ohio State University women’s lacrosse team earned its first Big Ten win of the season against the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights on Friday at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Dickinson finished with a game high six points, along with five ground balls, tied for the team high on the afternoon, as the Buckeyes notched their first win over Rutgers since 2015. Her six points are tied for the highest point total any OSU player has notched this season, and she tied herself with a season high three assists. The Buckeyes found themselves in a 1-0 hole early on, but Dickinson scored the first goal of the day for OSU to tie the game at 1-1. Baley Parrott and McKayla Conti tacked on goals to make it a 3-1 game with 18:04 left in the opening half. Rutgers attempted to slow down the Ohio State offense as Samantha Budd scored to cut into the OSU lead, but Dickinson and Conti responded with back-to-back goals to push the Buckeye’s lead to three, 5-2, with 13:01 to play in the half. The scoring slowed from there, with neither team finding the back of the net for over eight minutes until Paige Paratore scored to make it 5-3 OSU with 4:49 left in the first. The Buckeyes closed the half on a 2-to-1 run, with goals from Lindsay Epstein and Dickinson giving OSU a 7-4 lead heading into the locker room. Rutgers wasted no time getting on the board in the second half, scoring two goals in the opening 90 seconds to make it a one-goal game, 7-6. Molly Wood punched one in for the Buckeyes to give them a cushion, but Paratore struck gold for the Scarlet Knights to bring them back within one, 8-7, with 26:12 left to play. Over five minutes passed with neither team scoring before Rutgers notched an equalizer from Taralyn Naslonski to make it 8-8. From there, OSU took over. Parrott scored to put the Buckeyes back in front, and Mackenzie Maring followed her with a goal of her own to make it a two-goal game. The Scarlet Knight defense stepped up, holding the Buckeyes scoreless for over four minutes before Wood found the back of the net to give OSU a three-goal lead, 11-8, with 15:20 left in the game. Joanna Reilly stopped the OSU run with a goal to make it 11-9 with just under 15 minutes to play. The Buckeyes poured the pressure on over the next 10 minutes, keeping the Scarlet Knights from gaining any more ground. Jill Rizzo made some crucial saves, none bigger than the stick save she used to keep Reilly from scoring again with a little over 11 minutes to play. Not content to ride out the rest of the time with the lead, Parrott added some insurance with her third goal of the game to make it 12-9 with 4:54 left on the clock. Rutgers scored a goal with 1:28 left in the game, but it was too little, too late, as the Buckeyes came away with the 12-10 win. Parrott’s three goals tied the game high, along with Dickinson. She also notched four draw controls and scooped up two ground balls. Wood finished with two goals, four draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover. Rizzo tallied 16 saves and scooped up five ground balls, tied for the team high in the game. Caroline Mackrides led the defensive effort with three caused turnovers and one ground ball. Shannon Rosati provided her ever-steady defensive presence, scooping up three ground balls while causing one turnover. The Buckeyes get the weekend off and look to keep things rolling at home when they return to action on Wednesday against Robert Morris. That game is set for a 4 p.m. start at the Jesse Owens Memorial Field.
