Junior Madison Carter (Davidsonville, Md.) scored five goals to help lead No. 18 Penn State past Ohio State, 18-10, in Big Ten Conference action this afternoon from Ohio Stadium. With the win the Nittany Lions improve to 8-4 on the year and 3-0 in the Big Ten while the Buckeyes fall to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in conference action Senior Katie O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa.) added three goals while freshman Rachel Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) added a career-high five points as she registered the first multi-goal game of her career while adding three assists. Classmate Sophia Triandafils (Wading River, N.Y.) and sophomore Maria Auth (Street, Md.) also collected two goals apiece. Ohio State jumped out to the early 3-0 advantage just 5:10 into the first half after a Baley Parrott goal at the 14:50 mark, however, Penn State came right back to tie things at three after consecutive goals from O'Donnell, sophomore Kristin Roberto (Miller Place, N.Y.) and senior Shelby Wells (Timonium, Md.) for the 3-3 score at the 22:25 mark. Sara Dickinson gave the Buckeyes the lead again with her first of the contest just one minute later, but again Penn State came back with back-to-back goals to take its first lead of the game after Rosen finished off a feed from Wells during a man-down situation at 17:22 for the 5-4 advantage. Molly Wood tied the contest again for the hosts at 13:38 before Rosen and Carter struck with back-to-back tallies to grab the 7-5 lead at the 3:13 mark before a late OSU goal made things a one score game, 7-6, heading into the intermission. The Lions opened the second half on a 5-1 run as O'Donnell and Auth each ripped home a pair of goals and Carter tipped her hat-trick at the 24:39 mark for the 12-7 lead. Baley Parrott added a goal for the Buckeyes, but freshman Quinn Nicolai (Moorestown, N.J.) responded with her lone tally of the game at 16:50 to spark a 4-0 Nittany Lion run as junior Delaney Muldoon (Silver Spring, Md.), Carter and freshman Sophia Triandafils (Wading River, N.Y.) each added goals for the visitors to grab the 16-8 advantage at the 11:36 mark of the second half. Molly Wood ended the spurt as she found the back of the cage at 6:17 and Riley Ewing scored just 14 seconds later for the 16-10 deficit. Triandafils and Carter responded for Penn State to regain its largest lead of the game at 18-10 with 3:53 remaining. Freshman Lucy Lowe (Cockeysville, Md.) collected a pair of saves to improve to 6-4 on the year after playing the opening 37:06 before being relieved by sophomore Madison Cunningham (Davie, Fla.) who stopped three shots over the final 22:54 of game action. Penn State remains on the road next Saturday as they take a break from conference action with a trip to Charlottesville to battle the Virginia Cavaliers at 1 p.m. NOTES O'Donnell extends her goal streak to 35 straight games while Carter has now scored at least one goal in 15 straight games and has moved past Madison Cyr `16 and into fifth on the Penn State all-time goals list right behind O'Donnell with 158 in her career. Auth extended her goal streak to 15 games as well with a second half tally and has scored multiple goals in 14 of those 15 games. Penn State has now began Big Ten play at 3-0 or better in back-to-back seasons and in three out of the four seasons that the conference has sponsored the sport dating back to 2015. The Nittany Lions held the commanding 43-25 edge in shots including the 34-15 mark in shots on target while also holding the slim advantage on the draw, 16-14, and only turning the ball over seven times compared to 15 for Ohio State. The Buckeyes held the 18-15 edge in groundballs. Carter collected a game-high eight draw controls while junior Kayla Brisolari (Crofton, Md.) added four. Senior Maggie Gallagher (Bel Air, Md.) collected a team-high three groundballs and tied her career-high with three caused turnovers.
