Junior Selena Lasota and senior Sheila Nesselbush scored four goals each as No. 8 Northwestern dominated Ohio State, 20-6, for its fifth-straight win Friday afternoon at Martin Stadium. Lasota added an assist, her eighth of the season, to become just the 11th NU player since 2002 to reach 200 career points. Senior Shelby Fredericks also had a strong performance, tallying four points and winning nine draw controls. Less than a minute into the game, Nesselbush put the 'Cats up 1-0. After a quick answer from the Buckeyes (5-7, 0-3 Big Ten), the Wildcats (10-3, 3-0 Big Ten) took control of the game. Chicago's Big Ten Team scored 12 of the next 14 goals, including a stretch of three goals in 35 seconds to increase the lead to 8-2. Lasota found first year Taylor Pinzone with 17:11 left in the first half, score a goal of her own just 14 seconds later and again beat her defender at the 16:36 mark to put an exclamation on the scoring outburst. The 'Cats forced a running clock with 5:17 remaining, pushing their lead to 13-3 on Fredericks second goal of the contest. Nesselbush scored the first two goals of the second half to give Northwestern a 15-3 advantage. After the Buckeyes kept the lead around 10 for much of the second half, the Wildcats responded by outscoring Ohio State 4-0 in the final 5:44 of the game. Sophomore Sara Szynal set a career high with two points, scoring a goal and recording her first assist of the season during the 4-0 run. Junior Nell Copeland followed by putting her first goal of the season in the back of the net to increase the lead to 18-6. On the next trip down, she recorded her first assist of the season, and first year Brianna Stroup put the 'Cats up 19-6. First-year midfielder Kate Paliotta fired home a free-position with just 32 seconds remaining for the final goal of the contest. The Wildcats dominated on the defensive end, recording 12 caused turnovers. First-year midfielder Jill Girardi led the way with three, while senior defender Ally Mueller tied a career high with two. The stout defense helped Northwestern keep the pressure on the Buckeyes, outshooting them 44-17 on the game. Redshirt first-year goalkeeper Julie Krupnick allowed just five goals and made five saves in 44:27 of play to earn her 10th win of the year, while junior Mallory Weisse came in for the final 15:33. Weisse made one save and allowed just one goal to help preserve the victory. The Wildcats return to action on Sunday when they take on No. 21 Notre Dame at 12 p.m. at Martin Stadium. •••••• Be the first to know what's going on with the 'Cats -- Follow @NU_Sports on Twitter, become a fan of Northwestern Athletics on Facebook, check us out on Instagram, visit our Social Media page and download our mobile app from the Apple Store and Google Play!
