The North Central University men's lacrosse team played its first-ever Midwest Lacrosse Conference game on Saturday. The Rams ran into one of the league's better teams, Aurora University, who won the 2018 MLC crown and went 19-2 last year, in what turned out to be a 30-2 final score. Brendan Berg and Tim Dokken accounted for NCU's scores. Berg's successful shot, assisted by Dokken came at the 9:34 mark of the third quarter. Dokken found his own unassisted opportunity several minutes later before the third period horn sounded. Unfortunately for the Rams, the third quarter was also Aurora's best; the Spartans were able to get 10 shots past NCU goalie Paul Mellendorf in that 15-minute span of time. Mellendorf finished the game with 30 saves, setting a new single game career high for both he and the young NCU record books. North Central is scheduled to be back in action on Saturday, March 23 as the Rams host Cornell in Minneapolis. Faceoff is expected to take place at 1 p.m. in Elliot Park.
