The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team jumped out to a big early lead and never trailed in a 13-7 win over Manhattanville, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field. The Cougars took a 7-0 lead in the first period and then closed the game on a 5-1 run in the fourth quarter. Robert Wagner had two goals and three assists and Brandon Winslow added two goals and an assist. Matt Beck made 18 saves and Garrett Heidecker was 17-21 on face offs with 12 ground balls and a goal and an assist. Paul Hanrahan had five ground balls while Patrick Luzzi and Dom Campanale added four each. Carson Venis bounced in a shot on MU's second possession 3:15 into the first quarter. Hanrahan placed a shot over the goalie's right shoulder 90 seconds later to make it 2-0. Conner Entwistle took a nice pass from Venis and whipped a shot inside the right post for a man-up goal with 9:21 left in the first quarter. Heidecker won the ensuing face off and scored just six seconds later to make it 4-0. He took the next face off and found Luzzi on the left side of the crease for MU's third goal in 12 seconds and 5-0 lead. McSwiggan followed with a tough-angle goal from the left side and Darian Brown took a pass in stride from Spencer Sundeberg and placed a shot in the upper right corner to put MU ahead 7-0 with 3:10 to play in the period. Manhattanville got on the board in the final minute of the first period and scored the only goal of the second quarter. The Valiants cut the Cougars' lead to 7-3 with 9:05 to play in the third. Wagner answered for MU, but the Valiants struck three times in the final 2:34 to get within 8-6 heading to the final period. Winslow scored from the top of the circle to ignite a 4-0 run for the Cougars. Wagner followed with a goal from the same spot and then fed Winslow on the left wing for an 11-6 lead with 9:35 to go. Ryan Vandenberg came from behind the net to make it 12-6 four minutes later. After a Manhattanville goal, Dylan Walk took a pass from Wagner on the right post with and juked the goalie to close out the scoring with under a minute to play. The Cougars improved to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the MAC Freedom.
