The ninth-ranked Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse team used 13 different goal scorers to record its 500th win in program history, a 23-5 victory over Holy Cross, Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Ridley Athletic Complex. With the win, the Greyhounds claim their fifth-straight Patriot League Regular Season Championship. Freshman Livy Rosenzweig led the Greyhounds (14-3 overall, 9-0 Patriot League) with six points on three goals and three assists, while classmate Elli Kluegel shared game-high honors of three goals and senior Hannah Savage dished out a game-high five assists to also finish with six points. Senior Frankie Kamely, junior Emily Cooper, junior Hannah Powers, junior Taylor VanThof, sophomore Holly Lloyd and freshman Sam Fiedler added two goals apiece, while junior Sabrina Tabasso, junior Amanda Ignacio, junior Lindsay Gamer and freshman Liz Scott tallied one goal each. Kerianne Moran, Anna Pusey and Izzy Grant each scored once for Holy Cross (6-11, 4-5). VanThof won the opening draw control of the game and the Greyhounds never looked back, as Savage netted the game’s first goal at 26:43. Kamely then added a free position goal at 26:43, before Holy Cross got on the board at 25:18. Loyola answered with five-straight goals after that, from Fiedler, Powers, Tabasso, Rosenzweig and VanThof, to pull ahead 7-1 by the 12:12 mark. The Crusaders found the back of the net at 10:36, but the Greyhounds closed the half with six-unanswered goals to take a 13-2 lead into the halftime break. Kluegel, Cooper, Rosenzweig, Fiedler, Gamer and Powers scored those six goals before the intermission. Loyola picked up where it left off to start the second half, with Rosenzweig assisting Lloyd at 28:28 and then Lloyd returning the favor at 26:33. The Greyhounds rattled off seven more goals after that to stretch its run to a season-long 15-goal scoring streak. Kluegel scored first, followed by goals from VanThof, Lloyd, Ignacio, Kamely. Kluegel added a second before Cooper rounded out the run with a goal at the 9:57 mark. Holy Cross snapped the streak at 9:13, but Scott moved the final score to 23-3 with a goal at the 3:40 mark. Defensively, freshman Bridget Ballard and Tabasso led the way with three ground balls, while senior Katrina Geiger, junior Lindsey Ehrhardt, Tabasso and Savage caused two turnovers each. In goal, junior Kady Glynn played the first 30 minutes, stopping five shots and allowing two goals. Freshman Kaitlyn Larsson played the final 30 minutes, allowing one goal and stopping one shot. The Greyhounds will return to action on Friday when they open play in the 2018 Patriot League Championships. Top-seeded Loyola will host the lowest-remaining seed at Ridley Athletic Complex at 4 p.m. Second-seeded Navy will host the highest-remaining seed in the second semifinal game at 7 p.m.
