Down by four goals with four minutes left, the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team responded with a near-miraculous rally, posting three goals, with the last coming from senior Dominick Massaro (Centereach, N.Y./Sachem North) with 31 seconds left, but undefeated Lebanon Valley won the ensuing faceoff to hang on for a 13-12 win in non-conference action at UPMC Field on Wednesday afternoon, March 17. The Warriors (1-0 overall) fell behind by five goals a minute into the fourth quarter, but rallied with an explosive performance in the quarter, scoring eight times. Goals by junior Blake Premo (Massena, N.Y./Massena Central) and sophomore Rory Hines (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) cut the five goal lead to three before Lebanon Valley answered with two goals. Midway through the quarter, though, Lycoming exploded with three goals, one from freshman Jakob Switzer (West Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area) and two from junior Owen Zimmerman (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) cut the lead to 11-9 with 6:08 left. Out of a timeout, LVC's Carson Frey responded with two quick goals, but Hines got Lycoming's offense started again with a strike with 2:41 left. Massaro followed with another score with 2:14 left and his goal with 31 ticks left off a dish from Zimmerman made it a one-goal margin. Jake Bollinger picked up the groundball off the ensuing faceoff and the Flying Dutchmen (3-0 overall) were able to run out the clock. Massaro led the Warriors with four goals and two groundballs, Zimmerman added three goals, an assist and two groundballs and Hines posted three goals and an assist. Freshman Max Anderson (Harrisburg, Pa./Homeschooled) added three assists. Premo, sophomore Joe Corozzo (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore), junior Josh Hall (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) each led the Warriors with five groundballs a piece. Lebanon Valley scored the first three goals before Hines got Lycoming on the board with 6:32 left in the second quarter. The Dutchmen added two more goals before Massaro struck twice in the last 45 seconds of the half. LVC scored three of the four goals in the third quarter before the first goal of the fourth period put Lebanon Valley up 9-4, setting up the Warrior comeback. Michael Fisher posted two goals and four assists and Frey added four goals and an assist. Alex Kiviniemi posted three scores and Jake Bollinger had two assists, six groundballs and caused two turnovers. Sophomore Sean Sonnie (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) had 10 saves in the first half, allowing five goals and sophomore Dan Cantafio (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West) had four stops and allowed eight goals in the second half. Nick Serrano stopped 13 shots in the win for the Dutchmen. The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, March 20, when they head to MAC Freedom foe FDU-Florham for a 1 p.m. game.
