GRANTHAM, Pa. - Five different Falcons completed hat tricks on Wednesday afternoon as the Messiah men's lacrosse team picked up their second victory of the season with an 18-7 win over the visiting Lycoming Warriors. Messiah was led offensively by Owen Joyce's four tallies, but Aaron Shaw, Nate Jaloszynski, Sam Stone, and Lucas Honebrink each netted three apiece on the afternoon as the Falcons scored a season-high 18 times. With 18 goals on the afternoon, Messiah had their biggest offensive day since an 18-8 victory over the Hood Blazers on Apr. 18, 2019. Messiah jumped out to a 6--1 lead at the end of the first quarter and built that advantage to 8-1 at the half. Five goals in both the third quarter and fourth quarter locked up the double-digit win for the Falcons, who move to 2-4 on the season. Messiah will be back in action next Wednesday when they host the No. 6 York Spartans on the Lacrosse Turf at 7:00 p.m. Fantastic First Quarter The Falcons came out firing on all cylinders in this one against the visiting Warriors. Just 29 seconds into the contest, Owen Joyce found his fifth tally of the season on an unassisted strike to make it 1-0. Aaron Shaw wasn't far behind, making it 2-0 off the assist from Sam Stone less than two minutes into the game to give the Falcons all the momentum. Messiah cooled off a bit before tacking on four more goals in the final six minutes of the quarter. Two of these goals came from Owen Joyce to give him an early hat trick and give the Falcons a 6-0 lead after one. Piling It On After a slow second quarter for both teams, things began to break open in the third frame. Nate Jaloszynski and Lucas Honebrink both tallied a pair of goals in the quarter, as the Falcons stretched the lead to ten at 13-3 heading into the final 15 minutes. Messiah scored five more times in the final quarter, with all five goals coming from different players. Lycoming added a few late goals before Messiah ultimately cruised to an 18-7 victory to move to 2-4 on the season. Inside The Box Score Messiah led in virtually all major statistical categories in this one. They outshot the Warriors 43-35, with those 43 shots being a new season high. They picked up more ground balls than Lycoming (49-39) and won more faceoffs (14-12). The Falcons took advantage of their man up chances, scoring on three of their five opportunities. Kyle Anderson scored the first goal of his Falcon career Wednesday afternoon on a beautiful play. He grabbed the ground ball on the defensive end, and took it all the way down the field himself before shooting from his hip to beat the goalie. Messiah had seven different goal scorers in the game. What's Up Next After the win, Messiah will have a week off before they play host to the MAC Commonwealth leading No. 6 York College Spartans on Wednesday, Apr. 7 at 7:00 p.m.
